What this means: This means that Gateway Solver was able to connect to the Government Gateway and transmit your message. However, the Government Gateway has checked the details you have provided and found them to be invalid.

Solution: Check the set-up of your credentials. If you believe your credentials are correct, contact the Inland Revenue online services help desk on: 0845 366 7899. The mandatory fields for configuration of the online services are here:

Note: AORef is also part of the online settings (not shown highlighted with a red box)

Also make sure that "TEST MODE" is NOT SELECTED, as this will cause messages to go to the HMRC test services, and not the live system:

Still have a problem?

Most errors of this type are caused by typos (incorrect details). If you believe you have entered valid details, and the problem persists, please contact the HMRC online services help desk. They are your port of call for all authentication errors, and have the tools to resolve this issue for you.

Is your Company registered for new CIS (e-CIS)?

You must have registered for e-CIS before you can file online - even if you happen to know what all your online filing credentials are. If you are receiving authentication errors and have never filed online before, and yet you are absolutely sure your credentials are correct and that TEST MODE is not selected, it might be that your company hasn't been set up for e-CIS.

Registering for e-CIS is easy, and requires you to first call the new CIS online helpdesk and they will assist you in getting started.
